    The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires submission of a biosketch for each proposed senior/key personnel and other significant contributor on a grant application.

    Some funding opportunities or programs may also request biosketches for additional personnel. NIH staff and peer reviewers utilize the biosketch to ensure that individuals included on the applications are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research.

    Who are senior/key personal?

    The PD/PI and other individuals who contribute to the scientific development or execution of a project in a substantive, measurable way, whether or not they receive salaries or compensation under the grant.

    Typically these individuals have doctoral or other professional degrees, although individuals at the masters or baccalaureate level may be considered senior/key personnel if their involvement meets this definition. Consultants and those w
